As a former educator and Charleston photographer, I wanted to create a school photography experience that feels different on both sides of the camera. For schools, that means a Picture Day that is simple, organized, and minimally disruptive to the school day. For families, it means natural expressions and timeless portraits that actually look and feel like their kids.

From planning and family registration to private galleries, ordering, and delivery, I’ve designed the process so schools don’t have to take on another big project just to offer their families beautiful school portraits.

A Different Approach to School Photography in Charleston
For me, a better Picture Day starts with letting kids look like kids. I’m not expecting every child to give me the exact same smile or fit into the same pose. I gently guide each child through their portraits while giving them room to relax, show their personality, and give me the expressions that feel natural to them.
Picture Day still needs to move efficiently, especially when I’m photographing an entire school, but efficient doesn’t have to mean rushed. I intentionally work with smaller schools and programs so I can give each child the attention they need while still keeping Picture Day moving and minimally disruptive to the school day. Some children may be ready for their portraits right away, while others need an extra minute to warm up. I want to leave room for both.
Schools can choose between two different portrait styles. Fine Art Portraits are my signature approach, photographed against a clean white backdrop to keep the focus completely on the child. Natural Portraits are a great option for schools with a beautiful, shaded outdoor space and use the school’s own environment to create relaxed portraits that feel connected to a place the students already know and love.
Whichever style a school chooses, the goal stays the same: natural expressions and timeless school portraits that actually look and feel like your kids.
Who I Work With
My school photography experience is designed specifically with smaller schools and programs in mind. I work with preschools, daycares, private schools, homeschool programs and co-ops, and other small programs throughout Charleston, Summerville, Moncks Corner, and the surrounding areas.
Working with smaller programs allows me to create a more personal Picture Day experience. I can get to know the school, visit the space ahead of time, understand how your day normally flows, and create a plan that works around your students and staff rather than expecting your school to work around me.
Every school is different, which is why Picture Day doesn’t have to look exactly the same everywhere. Together, we’ll choose the portrait style, location, schedule, and additional options that make the most sense for your school and the families you serve.
Homeschool families can enjoy the experience, too. I also offer Fine Art Children’s Portraits for individual families who want the timeless look of my school portraits without participating through a school or homeschool program. This gives homeschool families, or any family who loves this portrait style, the option to book the experience privately.
What Does Picture Day Cost the School?
There is no cost to your school to bring Kailey B Photo in for Picture Day, and there is no obligation for families to purchase.
Families pre-register for Picture Day for free. After portraits are ready, each family receives access to their child’s private online gallery where they can view their images and decide whether they would like to purchase digitals, professional prints, or both.
Your school never has to collect money, manage orders, or distribute prints. I handle the ordering and fulfillment directly with families, with digital images delivered online and print orders shipped directly to their homes.
Picture Day gives your school the opportunity to offer families professional portraits without adding another expense to your school or another ordering process for your staff to manage.
What Can Be Included in Picture Day
Picture Day can be customized based on what works best for your school. Along with each student’s individual portraits, schools can choose to include class photos, sibling portraits, and complimentary staff portraits.
Class photos can be photographed as a traditional group portrait within the school environment or created as a composite using each student’s individual portrait. Both options can include the teacher and give families a keepsake of the students who made up their child’s class that year.
For smaller programs, sibling portraits can also be included for siblings who attend the same school. This gives families the opportunity to have their children photographed together in addition to each child’s individual portraits.
Staff portraits are complimentary for participating schools and can be used for staff profiles, your school website, social media, or other school needs.
Every school is different, so you don’t have to include every option. We’ll choose what makes the most sense for your school, your schedule, and your families.
How Picture Day Works for Schools
Bringing a school photographer to your Charleston-area preschool, daycare, or private school shouldn’t create more work for your staff.
We’ll choose your Picture Day date, portrait style, and any additional options, and I’ll visit your school beforehand to scout the location and plan a flow that works with your school day.
I provide a free registration link, customized flyer, and ready-to-send parent email. Once your school sends those materials to families, I handle registration, parent communication, reminders, and the details leading up to Picture Day.
After Picture Day, each family receives their own private online gallery where they can view their child’s portraits and choose exactly what they want to purchase. Digitals are delivered online and print orders are shipped directly to their homes. No money envelopes getting lost, no order forms for staff to keep track of, and no prints getting shoved into backpacks.
